Our Waitlist and Application Process
At Basia Mille Bernese, we welcome new puppies into our extended family. We provide resources for all aspects of raising a healthy puppy and a lifetime of support. We look forward to seeing pictures, hearing stories, and even meeting up for special occasions and reunions for local owners.
We are a small scale breeding program with usually only one litter a year (and sometimes less frequent). We often screen and get to know families long before a litter is born, and therefore our waitlist does fill up quickly.
Puppies are placed with careful consideration of matching temperaments and energy levels that meet the desires of the families. We use Puppy Culture and Avidog programs to raise our puppies to be confident and well adjusted before leaving our home. We believe the right puppy is worth the wait.
Is A Basia Mille Puppy Right For You?
Timeline: We limit the number of dogs we own so that we can provide them all of the love, attention, and training they deserve. Because of our small program, our wait time is typically a year. Occasionally, families contact us at just the right time, but this is not common. We want plenty of time to get to know you.
Experience: We do prefer to place puppies with families who have experience with Bernese Mountain Dogs or large breed dogs, however, some of our best families are first time owners. What we look for in a new Berner owner is a strong desire to listen and learn from breed experts.
Lifestyle: We expect that our puppies be part of the family and for someone to be home most of the time. Bernese Mountain Dogs do not thrive in a home where owners are gone all day. We do prioritize families with flexible schedules or those who work from home. When traveling, Bernese prefer to go with you or have an in-home pet sitter. Kenneling can be very traumatic for our sensitive breed.
Diet, Training, and Care: We prioritize placing puppies with families whose puppy raising philosophies align with ours, or want to learn more about a natural rearing approach and positive training methods.
